Description
Experience Level: Expert
Introduction:
At Onigo, we create digital scavenger hunts and escape games in iconic locations. Each game has a narrative story (e.g. a Murder Mystery) and requires groups to follow clues and solve logic puzzles delivered via a mobile web app in order to complete a 3 - 3.5km route.

Project Overview:
To create the story, script and puzzle content for a 60 minute scavenger hunt game around Hampstead Heath for groups of adults aged 16 - 40 years old. The key outcome here is that the story is linked to the locations visited and the puzzles solved to create a joined up, immersive experience.
Key elements:
The piece of work should include these key elements:
Theme of game + characters
Narrative story (max 1,250 words in total)
Location clues and answers (Optional depending on freelancer location)
Location coordinates (Optional depending on location)
Logic puzzles
Logic puzzle answers and hints
'Completion page'
(An example game script can be provided)
Notes:
The game should be achievable to complete in 60 mins but ideally with only a 75% success rate when walking. We find that an approx 3km route with 6 - 7 locations to visit and puzzles to solve generates about an 80 - 90% completion rate.
Route creation is optional however if you are local to London and able to do this, that would be amazing! We are available to assist with this.
There is no requirement to create any graphics / designs for the logic puzzles or any other element of the game (e.g. finish line moment). However, please include a description of what is intended or a sketch of these. E.g. You could use a stock image of a puzzle and then write “display this puzzle as though it is a text message on a screen”. We can bring in a designer to bring it to life.
Further to the above, depending on the complexity there is scope to build interactive puzzles (e.g. using touch screen functionality to select items rather than inputting answers in text boxes). Please feel free to include this functionality in the puzzle design and we will make a decision on whether we can implement it from a tech perspective or revert to a static image.
At Onigo we aim to use technology as an enabler for a real world experience. We don’t want users staring at their phones throughout the experience but instead interacting with each other and the environment. Please consider this when writing the narrative and designing the puzzles. For example we suggest keeping the total word count relatively low (1,000 - 1,250 words is a rough guide) so there isn’t too much reading required. You could also design puzzles which use the fixed environment / or which can be read out to the team.
We suggest using Word or Google Docs to write the game script, dropping in or attaching any puzzle images / drawings in JPEG format. It doesn’t need to be pretty, just functional so that the text can be easily copy / pasted and images can be used to guide the designer.
