Description
Experience Level: Expert
The Practice is set in Livingstone, a City with a culture designed for the Traveler; where the hospitality industry exerts great influence on aspirations of young people, especially the Girl Child and the dynamic work force in the formal as well as informal sectors.
Every year, millions of people within and without are drawn to the city of Livingstone by the Mighty Victoria Falls and the majestic Zambezi River for Holidays, Pleasure or Work. Whilst there, some will inadvertently seek healthcare far away from home, while some visitors will not be returning home. This is a fact of life dating thousands of years when man set out to explore distant lands. This dynamic interplay between Pleasure & Acute Health needs of a traveler is the center of the book.
The book tries to arouse curiosity in the mind of the Traveler to take personal interest at services offered to the locals other than entrusting their total care to the practice of the insurance provider. The first responders to an emergency are often the locals and the initial care offered has the potential to influence all subsequent care. Malpractice Lurks in the shadows everywhere.
The Practice is a snap shot into the fascinating and mysterious world of healthcare. This book takes the reader into the doctors’ office, the operating theater, the bedside, and sometimes into the personal lives of doctors as well as into the minds of Surgeons to witness firsthand the difficult decisions faced by doctors at the Livingstone Royal Infirmary as they care for those who seek their skill.
The book is not a representation of actual healthcare in Livingstone; this is a work of Fiction which should never be used to judge the City’s Healthcare System.
The service offered by any hospital or clinic in most African countries is determined by the diseases afflicting the locals; the Skills and Professionalism of the staff, (who constitute the functional element of the institution) are in response to the challenges thrown or anticipated at the institution. As in football, well trained professionals, well managed teams often win tournaments.
This book brings to light the drama played in the Shadows that will daze many within and intrigue the Traveler.
