In order to appreciate management principles the learners needs to understand the history and origins of management. By introducing the learner to these key areas this will ensure clear understanding of how their current organisation has developed their own management thinking. By understanding these principles the learners can evaluate and discuss management theory.
Tasks
For each of the tasks below write your response as a short essay/paper of 400-600 words.
1.Discuss the history and origins of management. Your discussion should include reference to Management theory. Examples or published case studies can be used to illustrate your points.
2.Explain scientific management and state how it differs from earlier management. Your explanation should be a progression from task 1. Include theory and theorists.
•Give an example of how early scientific management thinking can be used/applied to a current construction organisation
3.Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of scientific management. Your discussion should state how management thinking has developed to take into account human relations.
