Description
Experience Level: Entry
Number of words: 500
We publish a magazine aimed at people leaving the Armed Forces. We provide information on employment, education and training opportunities
Brief:
Feature: January Admission - Applying to colleges and universities for courses starting in January 2019.
Summary: Traditionally, the academic year in the UK runs from September to July.
However, there are some courses that begin in January or February, meaning that if
you’ve missed this year’s deadlines you don’t have to wait an entire year to start a course.
Points you could include within the feature:
Introduction for January intake.
Many people won’t even realise that all manner of courses are now available in
the January admission window – but that candidates should start now to make the
January 2019 start date.
The range of courses and universities operating January admission is slightly
limited but depending on the subject, you should still find options that suit you.
Handy if you missed the UCAS deadline or have only recently decided to take up
a course.
January could suit you if you want to apply for a course that is often over-
subscribed or if you want to miss the ‘crowds’ of September. Having said that,
courses are still likely to be popular, perhaps especially with overseas students
since institutions advertise them for students coming from abroad.
Check individual course details on college or university websites for vacancies
and details of January 2019 intake. You can contact institutions directly to speak
with their admissions staff.
Many colleges continue to accept student applications well past posted deadlines.
Some colleges have rolling admissions, which means that they continue to accept
students until the class is filled.
Look out for open days. If open days are still running – there’s still room on
courses.
………………………………………………………………………………………………
Please note:
Please use any relevant stats, facts or figures – but make sure that they are
properly sourced.
Introduce your piece with a ‘lede’ paragraph of one or two sentences.
Keep paragraphs simple and compact (65 words max).
Make your point quickly. Who, what, when, where and how? These facts need to
be in the first portion of your submission.
Write to the reader. Our audience is made up of Service-leavers from the British
Armed Forces – and their families.
Keep it positive. We exist to inspire our readers and empower them with
‘answers and solutions’.
Add any helpful information (at the end of your submission) such as telephone
numbers and web addresses of organisations relevant to the subject you have
written about. (Please no hyperlinks – they do not work in a printed publication.
Use reasonably short web URLs starting with www.)
