Description
Experience Level: Expert
Feature length: 1000 words
We publish a magazine aimed at people leaving the armed forces.
Summary: Many Service-leavers tell us that there are certain things that they miss from being in the Forces. Things like camaraderie and public service crop up regularly. A second career on civvy street in the emergency services could be the ideal move.
………………………………………………………………………………………………
Please include:
• General picture of employment figures/trends within emergency services.
• Requirements for joining Police, Fire Service and Ambulance Services.
• Discuss variety of roles (briefly) within each emergency service, such as paramedic, call handler, ambulance driver etc.
• Does Military experience help to place Service-leavers ahead of other candidates?
• What general skills or attributes can be transferred from Military service into a career with the emergency services?
………………………………………………………………………………………………
Please note:
• Please use any relevant stats, facts or figures – but make sure that they are properly sourced.
• Introduce your piece with a ‘lede’ paragraph of one or two sentences.
• Keep paragraphs simple and compact (65 words max).
• Make your point quickly. Who, what, when, where and how? These facts need to be in the first portion of your submission.
• Write to the reader. Our audience is made up of Service-leavers from the British Armed Forces – and their families.
• Keep it positive. We exist to inspire our readers and empower them with ‘answers and solutions’.
• Add any helpful information (at the end of your submission) such as telephone numbers and web addresses of organisations relevant to the subject you have written about. (Please no hyperlinks – they do not work in a printed publication. Use reasonably short web URLs starting with www.)
• Our readers will be well aware of general help available to the as Service-leavers and Veterans. You do not need to add this information.
• Add any interesting/related facts, styled to small paragraph for us to use as boxouts.
• Please do not format your text, add lines, page-breaks or embed images. (Send images as attachments.)
