Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: 4-6 weeks
Num. of words: 93000
Industry: Education
Topic: Coaching & Client-Centred Learning Skills for Driving Instructors
Tone: Instructional/Educational
Extensive research needed: no
Extra notes: We (Ged & Claire Wilmot) are UK-based driving instructor trainers. We train people up to become driving instructors... REALLY good ones! We also help existing driving instructors to become even better at what they do.
And we have now written a book. It's set to become a real hit within our industry and has the potential to reach a global audience, as the content is relevant to a worldwide audience of driver trainers.
In recent years, many European driving instructors have started to change the way we deliver driver training - we're moving away from an instructor-centred approach and more towards a client-centred one, in an effort to create more self-aware and responsible drivers. Ultimately, this will make our roads safer for everyone. Instead of novice drivers who are driving from memory ("What did my instructor tell me I should do here?"), we want them to be able to deal with any new situation based on previous experience of having to work things out fo themselves ("What is my best option here?").
Our book explains to driving instructors how to use coaching and client-centred techniques to make their drivers more aware and responsible. We also give instructors lots of example scenarios so that they can develop drivers that are safe for life, not just those that can 'pass the test'. Instructors who adopt the strategies and techniques within will undoubtedly develop MUCH safer drivers than those who continue to adopt a 'traditional' instructor-led approach.
The book has been written by us both and has been read by three driving instructors (our target market for this book) who have provided feedback which has enabled us to tweak the content. Their feedback has been excellent - in fact, all three have demanded to have their proof copies returned to them so they can use the book as a reference until our final version is published on Amazon. We will be self-publishing via CreateSpace.
The spelling and grammar in the book is of a high standard (at least, we like to think so!) so there *shouldn't* be a great deal of work needed there at all. The few spelling errors that existed were picked up by the peer reviewers.
We are looking for someone who will:
- Proof read and edit the book where appropriate.
- Provide any feedback to us on the content and structure, making any small structural changes as necessary.
- Be happy to inject a bit of life into the book where it might be a little 'flat' - we want to keep it light-hearted where it fits!
- Make suggestions for a book title (we kind of have a subtitle already... we just need a funky title!)
This project has run on for a few years now, so we are keen to get this job completed within 4-6 weeks.
Please provide us with samples of your work and a proven track record of success with other clients. We need to make sure we get the right person for the job, so please only apply if you have a keen eye for detail and experience of turning good text into AMAZING text!
If you need to know any more, please get in touch. I have provided a chapter from the book so you can see what our writing style is like and you can get an idea of how much work is needed. The book is not yet formatted for CreateSpace, but once it is, the 'Competence Ladder' diagram will fit on the same page. There are 14 chapters in the book in total, with a word count of approximately 93,000 words.
We look forward to working with you!
