Description
Experience Level: Entry
We are a UK-based company specialising in reminiscence materials for older people and people with dementia. We produce a reminiscence newspaper each day delivered digitally and in printed versions. It comprises 6 short columns along with an image. The aim of the articles is to trigger memories and initiate conversation. There is also a short section for each column providing background information and suggested question prompts for carers.
The writing style is chatty and informal. Sentences must be short and vocabulary simple but not childish. Topics are linked to everyday life in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, such as objects, people, habits, events and interests.
The audience in UK care homes is diverse, but our content is not currently catering for that diverse audience. We are striving to improve this by including more articles that reference other cultures. Therefore we are seeking writers who have an interest and/or knowledge of particular ethnic groups and are able to include suitable cultural references in their writing. In this instance, we are looking for writers who have knowledge and understanding of Ireland and the Irish culture, particularly between the 50s and 70s.
The articles are short, between 150 – 250 words long and require some image research. The rate is either £15 per article. After a (paid) test article, if you are a good fit for the style of the magazine, you would be assigned more articles - ideally 30.
Work is submitted to production deadlines, and writers must come up with their own topics.
