Description
Experience Level: Expert
General information for the website: This job is for "ongoing projects", not a one off website.
Description of requirements/features: This job is for "ongoing projects", not a one off website.
Extra notes: PLEASE NOTE:
1. we are a web development firm, so we are only looking to work with individual freelancers, not agencies. If you represent/work in an agency, or outsource any of your work - it will not work out (we've tried - honestly!)...
2. this job is for "ongoing projects", not a one off website. We are not looking for "turnkey solutions", extra services etc - just coding. We are simply planning to add another developer to the team to cope with extra work.
ABOUT YOU:
- you are a backend developer
- you know Wordpress inside out (I mean it!)
- you know how to create child themes and modify existing ones, you can even develop a theme from scratch if necessary
- you work with custom post types (coded in functions.php, not plugins!), build new widgets & plugins (and modify existing ones)
- you can work with (well documented) APIs and integrate/edit/code PHP wrappers etc
- you are comfortable with any PHP/JS/CSS work in general
- your code is clean, streamlined, well commented, follows all standard, etc
OPTIONAL:
- you are familiar with Git/Bitbucket/version control/etc
- you have dealt with / know about WP Engine and their staging functionality
- you know how to SEO/secure/optimise/manage/backup a WP site (if not, we have our own blueprints!) and edit the WP dashboard's look & feel
- you have worked with Jira (all tasks / time tracking will be done there) and Asana
- you own a "Code is poetry" WP t-shirt and attend Wordcamps (we do!)
ABOUT US:
- a small web dev firm based in London
- 5 regular clients (daily/weekly ongoing work), adding new clients this autumn (which is why we need you)
- 1 live startup, 2 startups (one for the WP community) waiting to be launched before end of September
- a few more projects in the pipeline (including more WP related projects)
SAMPLE TASKS:
- move a WP site content from qTranslate to WPML (and fix/convert all the shortcodes/hooks etc)
- integrate SharedCount API into a WP site
- add a custom social login integration for Restrict Content Pro plugin
- alter the behaviour of a post format
- add new meta fields to a post type
- develop a bespoke countdown plugin (trick is - no JS, just PHP/CSS ;) )
- speed up / optimise a website (remove/move JS, add CDN support, optimise/minify all code, and so on)
- code a payment gateway for the hideously outdated SecureTrading platform (not to worry, won't be your first task!)
And so on... You get the idea. Mainly backend work, with an odd CSS frontend task...
TIME FRAME:
Ideally, this would be a long term partnership (1 year+), and we can re-negotiate the hourly rate if all goes well.
DEAL BREAKER:
- this will be a partnership, you will be working with us directly (and we are all developers ourselves), this is not a typical client->contractor arrangement.
- as a result, we will want to have greater control over the work flow, check your code, suggest things, etc. It's not about getting a brief and turning up with a product several weeks later.
- constant contact is key - be it on Skype, on Jira (comments etc), Cloud9 editor (live "co-coding"), or in the thread here on PPH
- we take our deadlines and clients very seriously. We never miss the former (and never loose the latter). Neither can you. We can all be a few hours late, but you cannot disappear for a week without warning right in the middle of a job / right before the deadline (this is why things didn't quite work out the last two times we posted a similar job here).
SO:
- apologies for such a long description. This is the third/fourth time we are posting similar jobs, so trying to proactively avoid the same mistakes...
- if you are interested, please tell us more about your Wordpress / coding skills (any code on Github/elsewhere?), any plugins you may have created, etc
- we will then select the top 3-5 candidates and do a couple of paid trial tasks (just so that we can check your "code logic"...)
- we may decide to work with more than just one candidate
