Description
Experience Level: Entry
General information for the website: We are a food Blog
Kind of development: Customization of existing website
Description of requirements/features: We need to change the Ad tags for 2 of our Adverts running on the site and add mobile Ad tags, our media partner has told us the following:
What Is It?
To help enhance monetization opportunities for Glam’s publisher partners, we are releasing a new ad tag technology, which is designed to deliver a better publisher experience, including drastically reduced page load time, reduced discrepancy and a better framework to deliver higher-value advertising programs.
When Can I Use It?
The new tag is available now, on communication with Glam Media’s account team, it is not yet available for self-serve access in the GlamAdapt Insider
Summary
Whereas our current publisher tags are individual ad calls that are called once per ad size on a Web page, the new tag is a single minimally impactful call made at the top of the Web page, followed by “Ad Slots” which deliver the ads but do so without forcing the page to wait for them to be selected.
The benefits of this are:
• Faster loading, smaller Javascript footprint on the page.
• Loads all ads at once; reduced number of http calls on the page.
• Glam can make a decision BEFORE any ads are actually loaded whether we have ads to deliver, thereby eliminating the need for a “passback” ad for publishers running their own ad servers.
• Seamless way to ensure maximum participation in Glam high impact and sponsorship ad programs, without sacrificing discrepancy or page load.
Conditional Ad Server Call (For Publishers running their own ad server):
This approach allows Glam to make a decision about whether we want to fill the inventory on the page prior to loading any ads, with no impact on page load.
If Glam can fill the page or any of the ad slots, the Glam ad slots are filled. If Glam passes on the ad slot(s), your existing ad server is called as per your normal ad load process.
The Publisher Default Ad program would not be utilized. If we do not want to fill the inventory, your ad server will be called to fulfill the unit.
For maximum speed, steps 1 and 2 must be called at the very beginning of the tag. During our testing, we have found that lower placement of this code can cause issues with ad selection not responding before the display call is made
1. Load static js file
2. Declare ad slots and load all ads at once.
= 728) {
GlamCreateSlot("1676719354", "728x90", "Leaderboard");
}
GlamCreateSlot("1676719354", "300x250", "Rectangle");
if (window_w <= 640) {
GlamCreateSlot("1676719354", "320x50", "Mobile");
}
GlamGetAds("1676719354");
3. Show ad for each ad slot in of the site at desired location
For your site, the scripts will look like:
For 728x90 Premium Ad unit:
GlamShow("Leaderboard");
For 300x250 Premium Ad unit:
GlamShow("Rectangle");
For Mobile Ad:
GlamShow("Mobile");
