Description
Contexis specialise in applying entrepreneurial thinking to large organisations
Why are we doing this?:
Our website has grown organically with the result that the message is confused, some of the features are clumsy (Purpose Feed) and it now looks a little old fashioned. We have lots of great content on our Insights page which we are not making the most of.
What are the problems:
- Current web site messaging is confusing
- Site is visually busy
- WP Theme is difficult to use for people of our capability
- WP Theme requires a lot of custom coding to create landing pages, which we would like to do more of
- Not all the elements we have created work properly (Purpose Feed) or have proved popular (client resources area)
What do we need?:
- redesign of current website in line with new messaging (will be supplied)
- rebuild site using Divi or the like for easy updating and adding in new articles and landing pages without having to brief a developer
- SEO set up (we have a premium Yoast account but it does not seem to be working as expected)
- social media integration as recommended
- organisation of articles into categories
- recommend and set up new hosting platform and transfer site and domain as required
- briefing and training where required so we can manage it ourselves
Visually:
- great photography (may have to be stock to start with, to be replaced with bespoke images as we get them)
- clean look
- integrated video and other elements to make it more dynamic and interesting to look at
What else is required:
Transfer of all articles from existing site (TBC - it may be easy for us to do this ourselves)
Who does this better than us (who might be our competitors)?
MindGym - https://uk.themindgym.com/
Chemistry - http://thechemistrygroup.com/
Which others sites do we like and what do we like about them?
- Obama.org - clear message, big text, dynamic menu on lhs, pop up 'I'm in' data capture.
- Nove.eu - beautiful menu, simple twitter feed, dynamic video behind the words
- zerofinancial.com- attention grabbing headline. Moving images engaging rather than irritating
Current thinking on structure and content:
- Menu - Home, What we think (Insights), Stories (case studies), Who we are, Talk to us
- Home page flow
- Why
- What we do
- How we do it
- What you'll get
- How you can join in
Considerations:
Insights - better layout so you get more than the headline when you hover over the article and before you click through. Need to differentiate between video and text
Talk to us - how to make this more dynamic without being intrusive? Connect with Mailchimp?
Who we are - new, less corporate photography; fun but less folksy descriptions - or just link to LinkedIn (in a pop up??) bring corporate experience up front with caption on picture (Made in Mars. Entrepreneur since 2003)??? More than just a list of bios but include beliefs, purpose, our story culture, values and perhaps 'join us'
In terms of 'positioning against: Most strategy consultants are busy, wordy, packed with choices of what to read (confusing) talk about 'we are one of the world leading global consultancies' rather than what benefit we give (what we are not why you should be interested)

Okay Charlotte, Let's get started then:---
So from all that you've written, it occurs to me that the primary problem is with how you have your information organized currently. I mean a lot of good stuff but not mad the most of as things are getting too crowded and overwhelming. Am I correct in saying that?
Secondly ,
- redesign of current website in line with new messaging (will be supplied)
----->> Okay
- rebuild site using Divi or the like for easy updating and adding in new articles and landing pages without having to brief a developer
------->> See charlotte, here's the problem. Skipping to Divi will not solve the problem but in many ways will increase it. Let me explain: your objective is to manage and maintain the website on your own without any outside help, well , nothing comes close to wordpress (native) if done properly . Secondly, your problem is with structure, so it can be equally messed up in Divi
- SEO set up (we have a premium Yoast account but it does not seem to be working as expected)
-------->> Absolutely not, Yoast is just a plugin, and mostly a disappointment at that. You need to perform Organic ON-PAGE and OFF-PAGE SEO optimization. Google has become very very wise over the years.
- social media integration as recommended
---->>okay
- organisation of articles into categories
----->> okay
So what I want is a time slot from you when you and I can talk, I need to dig deeper into this and see your link also.
About me:-- About me: I've been an OPENSOURCE Application developer for about 12 years now. However, I've just signed up on peopleperhour.com, like a week back. So I'm looking forward to see how I can connect and help people with my skills. Feel free to ask me any question that you might haveCharlotte B.09 May 2018Hi
You are correct in your analysis that a lot of our problems are caused by the way the information is organised - we seem to have two insight pages for example! This is why we need help with design and structure and not just the technical side. We are not technical - for example, I don't know what you mean by wordpress (native).
Thanks for your interest and your input so far.
CharlotteMainak B.10 May 2018Hey Charlotte, it's perfectly alright if you're not technical, that's why you have me. I think at this point I have enough info to begin my work. Also, I would suggest you remaining with Wordpress , the reason is. once I'm done with your project , you'll have an excellent and really easy dashboard to work with , something built for rookie , so adding stuff and managing stuff on the site is going to be super easy and you wont really need to hunt down another developer / coder unless you think of doing some major upgrades. So the key point to start with are :
1) A website that is easy to look at and get's you where you need to be without being a major pain in navigation and all
2) A website that is easy to manage on your own , something that functions on the basics like click and drop .
So let's get started. Also I asked you to mention a time when we can talk, so could you let me know that . Because then we can finalize everything and get started. -
Hi,
Hope you are doing good. Could you please provide me the URL of your current website.

Hi Charlotte,
Thanks for a very detailed job spec. Looking at that, I can certainly produce the work you are looking for.
Could you please open up a discussion with me so we can speak about this further?
Thanks,
DanCharlotte B.09 May 2018Hi Dan
Thanks for your interest in our brief. What else can I tell you?
Regards
CharlotteDaniel R.09 May 2018Hi Charlotte,
Thanks for getting back. Here are a few questions I have about the brief:
- Are you looking to remain with WordPress and the Divi theme? Or would you be open to alternatives?
- Where you mention ‘new messaging (will be supplied)’, do you mean that you would be looking for somebody to re-design the front end, but the functionality of the feed will be provided?
- What sort of changes are you looking for in the client area, if any?
- Overall, how many pages will there be in total as on your current website there are separate pages under the people and partners sections etc.
- I can also provide hosting
Thanks Charlotte,
Dan
