Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the website: We showcase the creative process of making films and games
Kind of development: Customization of existing website
Description of requirements/features: We have migrated our site from Siteground, where it was developed, to Rackspace, where it will go live. Now, after that transfer, the domain needs to be updated throughout the database. We are talking references to css files, javascript, plugins, everywhere where there was a reference to the old domain, that needs to be updated. According to Rackspace, there are just under 10k records, the vast majority in blog post entries, which aren't that important as the more vital ones. So it'll be a lot less.
NB: We are NOT looking for a blind search and replace!
It needs to be a sophisticated solution so it doesn't break anything on the site.
So to repeat, the job is:
replacing all seemingly relevant occurrences of '/development.itsoncraft.com/' to '/itsoncraft.com/' on the database.
The thing is, this migration has already happened once in November. From Siteground to Rackspace. From there we made all these database changes and developed the site for two months. Then sadly our database got corrupted on Rackspace, and the only backup was from when we migrated on November 19. We have now restored the database from that date, as it couldn't be regenerated. So this means the files are "new" but the database is "old".
- Nov 19: migrating site to Rackspace
- Nov 19: Rackspace changes all database references to itsoncraft.com
- December and January: Developing the site
- January: Database crashes
- February: Restore from Nov 19 database
Now: do the same changes Rackspace did in November and keep the developed files
Let me know if you need anymore information.
Specific technologies required: mysql, wordpress
Extra notes: We need you to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to ensure you won't take the information to any third party.
