Experience Level: Intermediate
Our company has already built a social networking website and now requires a Flex developer to produce a simple Flex application.
The application will allow users to create a graphical poster using a few simple editing tools.
The user can choose from a series of pre-selected backgrounds, or upload their own.
They can then enter any number of text strings through a single textfield and add each one to the poster. Any text can be entered into the textfield but with every keystroke the textfield will also autocomplete from a database table. Any matches are returned underneath the textbox (exactly like Google Suggest and all the other autocomplete implementations) and can be selected and then added to the poster.
Once a text object has been added to the poster it can be moved, resized and rotated. The user can also change the font and the colour of the text.
Shift click will select multiple text objects, which can then be moved, resized, rotated, font-changed and coloured altogether.
When the user is happy with their poster they click a Save button. The data that 'describes' their poster (text content, colours, positions, rotations, sizes, etc) will all be sent to the server and stored in a database (so they can come back and edit their poster later on). A series of different sized JPEGs of the poster will also be created and stored on the server. The user is then redirected to another page showing them their full-size poster JPEG and they are offered the opportunity to register with the site. If they register, the poster is made public to the site's community and they can take advantage of other features.
Our core social networking application is built using Ruby on Rails. If you want to provide the additional RoR code to handle the upload process then fine, if not we just require the Flex application to be built using industry standad Flex>Rails integration techniques and of course, the Flex application should be very well documented.
We'd like this to be completed at least four weeks after project commencement.
Please find the attached wireframe documents to help explain the flow of the application. Also take a look at the SWF file in roughdemo.zip to see a VERY ROUGH example of the type of resize, rotate, drag functionality required.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
