Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Introduction
You have been approached by the Educational service of a Museum and you have been asked to develop an educational multimedia application that focuses on a particular section of the Museum.
You can get some ideas of educational sites in the following links:
http://www.ancientcivilizations.co.uk/
http://www.ancientegypt.co.uk/
http://www.ancientgreece.co.uk/dailylife/challenge/cha_set.html
http://www.automatashop.co.uk/
However, you may notice that some of these are rather static and they do not employ rich animation for the
presentation of the subjects they cover. The application that you will design should focus on:
%u2022 using rich animated interface components
%u2022 using rich animated for the explanation of the content
%u2022 include a game.
For example have a look at the following application that has been design for MOMA and explains what is
print in a highly animated and interactive way.
http://www.moma.org/exhibitions/2001/whatisaprint/flash.html
It is up to you to choose the Museum that you will work with, the content of the Museum section for
which you will develop the application and the age group that you are targeting.
The application will be developed for a standard screen size 640x480 pixels and it involved two types of
animations:
%u2022 a linear animation (this could be an introduction to the educational application, something like a splash
screen)
%u2022 a non-linear animation (where the user controls the application)
The coursework is designed primarily to assess your knowledge that has been gained from the module in
developing digital animation and incorporating it in a %u201Creal world%u201D multimedia application.
The mark awarded will reflect the efficiency of preparing the content stated above, the composition, the design
solutions provided and also attention to optimization and memory management. For more detailed assessment
criteria see at the end of the coursework the marking scheme.
The CW has two main parts:
%u2022 the conceptual design, CW1 worth 35%
%u2022 the implementation of the application, CW2 worth 65%
that will be submitted as the following deliverables:
%u2022 Deliverable 1: CW1
o A written report that explains the conceptual design of the application
o A flow chart of the application
o The Storyboard for the linear application and for the main nodes of the multimedia applications
%u2022 Deliverable 2: CW2
o The final implementation of the application
o An oral presentation of the application
The implementation of the application will be in Macromedia Flash 8. However, for the content development
of the application (graphics, audio, video) you may need to use: Photoshop; Sound Forge; Adobe Premier; and
other applications you are familiar with in developing multimedia content.
(Note: during the oral presentation the tutors will be examining you technical information about the
development of the application in Flash 8).
