Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
For my graduation project I came up with an idea for a chrome extension that give you insight of how much personal data is collected by third parties when you start a search at google. In the Netherlands webpages ask for permission to gather data from us and many people are simply agree on this to get acces to the webpage.
The purpose of this chrome extension is to show people how much data they give away as a result of allowing cookies and to show how much less this can be if you do not accept them for example.
I will need a Chrome browser extension that tracks people while they interact with content on webpages they visit after starting a google search. The extension tracks the amount of data that third parties collect from the user when they are visiting webpages and specify this data in the following categories:
Ip address = X number of times collected
Location = X number of times collected
Web History = X number of times collected
Device details = X number of times collected
The user can also see the total number of data that he have given away each week, it shows for example:
Total = X number of times collected this week ▾ 44% from last week
1. The extension starts with a new data tracking with every new search in google.
2. The extension shows how many data you give away with your latest activity
3. The weekly overview is a second option and will show an overview of how much data you have given more or less than the previous week.
4. The extension stores each data session as a backup for the weekly overview and keep this for 2 weeks.
Extra information: It is similar to the screen time function that can be used for Iphone users, only this is not about the screen time, but about the amount of data you give away when searching the web and visiting websites.
Kind regards,
Steffi
