Hello!
We are web development and design company hosting up to 50 domains once we get them all to one server. Many of them are Magento and MODx Revolution based and some of them some other known scripts. One OpenERP, too.
We want it lightweight and stable and good in speed - we need also suggestions in what provider to choose and what software. Also, I know a bit about Linux, too so you will need to explain and teach me here and there. I am willing to learn as much as possible.
We wanted to upgrade our VPS and hired someone who at the end of the day didn't give good suggestions and wasted lot of money.
We were using Kloxo in our old server without proper server admin and it worked well until one day someone calling themselves server admin, messed it up so the mail server started going down every little while.
If you quote your price, please also suggest some answers:
1. Is Kloxo really so unstable and we should take cPanel instead or is it stable enough if you are the one and only server admin?
2. If not Kloxo then why cPanel as it takes aroung 1GB memory if Kloxo only 300-400MB and DirectAdmin is even more lightweight? Or is there even something better? Plesk? We don't feel the need to pay more if there isn't really any real advantages that we get profit of.
3. One problem what previous server admin mentioned is that DirectAdmin can't have custom paths to home directory in cPanel he had quick workaround to it. We have home dir parhs like this /home/customer/domain.com and few ones /home/domain.com/domain.com - as far as I know about Apache it shouldn't be problem.
4. Nginx some people say is better but our previous server admin says there will be lot of problems with executing php commands and especially with .htaccess. What are your thoughts?
5. Do you have any ideas about creating MODx autoinstaller with specific template? Basically copy all the files and change the path in certain files. For billing WHMCS or something else? This point is actually the biggest job as I believe to experienced server admin it shouldn't take long to explain what's the best solution and then setup the server. Or even just instruct how to do it over the Skype some simple tasks.
It's a long terms relationship where we would like to post you in our ActiveCollab ticketing system tickets when we have any improvements needing in server.
Please, let me know also about your knowledge of any other things you do mostly.
