Description
Experience Level: Expert
Due to having been let-down by another freelance agent on this site, we are seeking a HTML/CSS/Javascript/PHP/Wordpress developer for an immediate start on the following project. We are a reputable company and have an URGENT need to conclude this project preferably by Monday 2nd August. We are looking to build a relationship with a developer who can help us move the site forward into the future.
Development Brief Phase 1
We require a full HTML and Javascript cleanup on our WordPress 3.0 website. The site currently works but does not validate fully. This is a bespoke design and all layouts will be supplied in Photoshop format. You can clean-up the existing code or fix the existing template.
The primary deliverable will be a template that we can plug-in to the Wordpress system to provide HTML/CSS validity and exact translation of the design.
Our requirement for this will be:
Template to match design in Photoshop file
Clean, accessible HTML that validates (HTML5 would be great but not imperative)
Use of JS framework to enhance the site interface. The site currently uses both MooTools and jQuery frameworks • this needs to be cleaner and to use only one framework if possible.
Further requirements:
We need a simple custom plugin coded for Wordpress 3.0 that gives us simple tracking facilities for marketing campaigns and sets a dynamic phone number • see below for details.
HTML Cleanup
Working from the Photoshop source file, code a Wordpress template to fit the design.
Template should render validating HTML/CSS code and be as SEO friendly as possible.
The Photoshop file shows 3 layouts:
Full Width Layout - Renders page content without sidebar
Static Page Layout 1 - Renders as per the Photoshop design
Blog Layout - This is the main Blog Listing page
All fonts, markup and custom styles should be consistent and easy to use so additional pages can be added to the site simply in the future.
General:
Please provide standard elements that match the design and can be used to style pages and blog articles. E.g.
H1,H2,H3,H4...
2 Bullet Styles for UL (tick image and generic “ >>” image)
Image floats
Floatable BlockQuotes so we can highlight snippets from an article/page
Alert boxes/notification/highlight styles that we can use to bring attention to page areas
On the site template:
Navigation:
Current navigation is UL list based and coded with MooTools to provide tab-like functionality. It works but is probably overkill. Happy to keep the existing navigation unless this can be coded better (it is currently a JS hack-about).
The phone number at the top of the page is dynamically generated.
Currently:
1. Visitor enters site through special URL. (e.g. /campaigngateway)
2. I use a 301 redirect plugin (simple 301 redirects) to redirect the URL to a relevant landing page but with a parameter of “?cid=xxx” where xxx is a unique tracking code
3. A client-side cookie is written to store the promotional code
4. When a quotation form is submitted, the tracking value is included in the form output for external tracking (hidden field)
5. At the top of each page, a manually maintained PHP file is parsed that checks for the cookie and sets the main phone number at the top of the site and into a hidden DIV at the end of the code • the hidden div is used to populate any element with the class “dynamicphone” • the innerHTML gets replaced with the phone number using MooTools JS (onload).
We need:
A back-end administration plugin that allows us to setup redirects with similar tracking ability:
a.Entry URL
b.Tracking Code
c.Phone Number
d.Landing Page Redirect
Capture URL server-side and redirect to landing page. Set the website phone number based on entry point. Write cookie to client for future tracking.
Include the tracking code within the form submission.
Form submission is currently working ok, it is the method of setting this up that needs to be moved server-side as currently the “?cid=xxx” variable is parsed through JavaScript.
Site Homepage:
We would like to keep the layout as-is for now but in-line with the HTML cleanup and Photoshop Design file • it is not a perfect representation of the design just now. This page can be based on the “Full Width” layout with relevant styling elements to allow the panels.
The accordion fader on the home page is currently running in an iFrame • this is less than ideal. We need a simple solution that allows us to embed a slider/image ticker with the page.
The “Get a Quote” button is assigned through JS to popup a modal type window • the form currently writes an entry into a text file which is then picked up and parsed by an external CRM system. OK to leave this as-is for now.
Supplies:
We will supply:
Photoshop Source File
Copy of existing template (based loosely on WP3.0 Default “TwentyTen” template)
Any clarification or further materials required for the project
Expectations of the project vendor:
We expect:
Prompt delivery with realistic delivery date
Full attention to the project whilst working on it (if you are currently busy with multiple projects and unable to commit fully to this task, do not apply)
A Professional level of communication at every stage
Prerequisites for Selection:
Experience with Wordpress 3.0
Exceptional HTML/CSS/JavaScript skills
Full-Time freelancer
Contactable during normal working hours
UK Based, preferably near London (not crucial)
Renumeration:
If your bid is accepted, it will be on the basis of completing the above works within an agreed timescale. You must be clear that this project is on a tight schedule and any delays will cause additional costs to us.
Due to having worked with poor freelancers in the past, there will be an agreed time limit for this job. Do not bid on this project unless you can start working on it immediately and devote your full attention to it • nothing else is acceptable, sorry.
Attached to this project:
Screen grabs of 3 Photoshop layouts • the PSD file will be supplied to the developer once the project is agreed. PSD is a single file with layers that can be turned off/on to show layout options.
Placing a bid:
BIDS welcome from UK Based developers who are able to start on the project immediately and complete quickly. You must be a full-time freelance developer and provide your telephone number for a brief pre-selection chat. Detail any relevant experience and recent projects you have worked on.
