Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
We are a small business selling violin, viola and cello fittings all over the world and we have a recently developed Drupal 7 website. The website includes a product database which holds information about the type, style, material, trim material, size and price of the fittings.
The website needs to link seamlessly to a ‘shopping basket’ that can accept a customer’s details (name, address, email address, phone numbers, VAT number, list of products in the current order and any miscellaneous notes) and, most importantly, use the address (country) and VAT number (if applicable) to determine the rate and amount of VAT that will apply to the total of the order. The ability to determine postage rate based on the destination of the order is also desirable and real time validation of EU VAT numbers would be a nice addition so that clients can immediately know if their entered VAT number is valid. There is currently no requirement to accept electronic credit/debit payments, but the solution should allow this to be easily added in the future.
The system should display an ‘Order Summary’ to the customer containing the list of products ordered, product prices and VAT amounts, a postage amount and a total and VAT total for the order. The customer should be able to place the order or cancel it at this stage. If the order is placed, an ‘Order Confirmation’ email should be sent to both the customer and our business email address which should contain all the information regarding the customer and the order, including any additional notes. The ability for a customer to have a password protected login that saves their details along with their previous order history/current order status would be nice to have but is not essential to this phase of the development.
Notes: We have successfully used RomanCart with a previous website. This provided all required ‘Shopping Basket’ functionality but it is not known whether our Drupal 7 website and database can link to it.
Some brief investigations into linking the website with Ubercart have been undertaken by the original website developer but it was not clear whether Ubercart could handle our VAT requirements.
