Description
Experience Level: Expert
We need a Web Developer / Team for building (from scratch) an online marketplace using open source platforms. The role shall require all the IT skills that required for building a similar platform, including but not limited to:
- Web Strategy and Planning (including choosing an open source platform and hosting)
- Web Design and Development
- Testing
- Ongoing maintenance (including debugging and performance troubleshooting)
Development requirements
1) Scalability and performance must be built into every component of website architecture, design and code, to allow for subsequent expansion into the international markets.
2) Use of agile methodologies to enable the initial rollout complete within time and budget. It would also help us adapt swiftly to any unplanned or unforeseen changes.
3) Service Oriented architecture (SOA) to enable us replace any non-functioning/performing services with ease. This will also make it easier for us to switch between outsourced and internally hosted services.
4) Ownership of delivered solution (including relevant Intellectual Property rights) to remain with us at all stages, subject to the license restrictions imposed by Open source software. Also, the code must be properly documented for easier transition to internal staff or different provider when required.
5) The developer needs to warranty that the website will not infringe on others' intellectual property rights and will be legally compliant.
6) ALL major design/architectural decisions impacting the business shall require our explicit involvement.
7) The website must be thoroughly tested for functionality and scalability. Response timings should be minimal and comparable to major online marketplaces.
8) The developer must provide support for any bug fixes and emergency performance issues.
9) Individual components should be outsourced where possible (at least initially) to keep costs and headaches down while guaranteeing best service. For example, the following could be outsourced:
- Content and storage hosting
- Payment methods (e.g. Paypal)
- Chat (e.g. Skype)
- Email Hosting
10) The website must be built with tracing/logging, error reporting, performance and auditing capabilities. These should be easy to switch on and off.
11) The website should also provide easy ability to enable/disable user surveys.
Other Requirements:
* Based in UK (need to sign a NDA before discussing the project details or commencing the project)
* Experience with online marketplace development
* Strong experience in HTML, CSS, PHP and ecommerce platforms such as Drupal, Magento etc
* Be able to prove existing clients and previous jobs
* Fast turn around and quick email response
* Fixed price quote
