Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Join the most promising e-commerce start-up in the UK and help us to take our product data platform and automated integration services to the next level. We are looking for two developers (senior and junior) to complement our team of 2. We have the first version in place which allows us to trade, you’ll work on stabilising this current architecture, but most importantly, you’ll need to architect, design, prototype, and implement incrementally our second generation platform capable of handling 100m product records with 30 minutes update cycles.
The perfect opportunity to design & build your own platform and do it better this time, not repeating all the mistakes thrust upon you in your current job.
As the senior developer you should be able to take charge from the get-go, design & articulate your vision to our Head of Development (your boss) and the wider management team. You can deep-dive into coding, rapid prototyping to incrementally prove your design with real-life data. You are well versed in setting up all the processes and tools required for streamlined development (SCCS, test environments, release procedures, etc.) by using our current toolset. You should have 5+ years experience in BIG DATA and are just burning to show that you can lead the design process and the team.
As the junior developer you are a super star coder eager to gain more responsibility and work on your own modules and services. No coding task is too challenging, you’ll crack through it by never giving up. You should have 2+ years experience in BIG DATA.
You’ll join a super growth start-up (25 of us, 18 months old). Everyone at Flubit works in a fluid and ever-changing environment. We want you to be adaptable to this way of working too. We are funded, but you are not coming to work for Google or Amazon – thus we pay, but salary is adapted to a start-up. But the job comes with a big, fat options package! And don’t forget the satisfaction of instant feedback on your work – as you see our marketing team picking up on your work.
The details:
• Working practice with PHP v5.3
• Experience with programming on high-scale or distributed systems (such as Hadoop/Zookeeper/Thrift)
• Ability to support business development activities to shape and communicate proposed solutions to management team
• Experience with at least 4 of the following activities in the context of high-scale or distributed systems:
1. Implementation of NoSQL databases (mongo/raven/Cassandra/hypertable)
2. Implementation and Build of RestFul & SOAP API’s (xml/json/xlst)
3. Application/implementation of custom reporting portal and KPI’s.
4. Administration of relational databases (MySQL)
5. Data migration from existing data stores
6. Infrastructure and storage design
7. Implementation of MVC 3 Tier architecture applications
Preferred Skills:
• Hands-on experience with Mongo
• Hands-on experience with related/complementary open source software platforms and languages (e.g. Java, Linux, Apache, Perl/Python/PHP, C)
• Hands-on experience with versioning tools (SVN/Git/Mercurial)
• Good HTML 4/5, CSS, JS skills
• Experience of working with Symfony framework
• Experience or exposure to Full Text Searching – (Apache Solr / Lucene / Sphinx)
• Experience of Unit Testing – working with, creating and documentation

• ORM experience (Properl / Doctrine)
• Knowledge of cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. Amazon Web Services EC2, Elastic MapReduce) and considerations for scalable, distributed systems
