Description
Experience Level: Expert
General information for the website: Software sales
Description of requirements/features: I am looking for basic advice on setting up PHPMyAdmin on my Centos server. I have six or seven websites hosted on the server, and I want to make it so that PHPMyAdmin is only accessible through one of them. I also want to know how to use chown to change the ownership of the user/share/phpmyadmin folder, and how to set up the phpmyadmin.conf file so that only my IP address can access phpmyadmin. I also want to know how to make the /phpmyadmin page on my website password protected, so that I have to enter a username and password before I can even view the /phpmyadmin page- and then I would have to enter the PHPMyAdmin username and password too, to make it more secure. I am going to be installing OSTicket, which is why I need to use PHPMyAdmin. I have used PHPMyAdmin before, but it was about five years ago and I didn't need this level of security. I won't be allowing you access to my server, I just need to be able to ask you simple questions about it, so that you can guide me through what to do.

Hi Adam,
if you add an .htaccess file you can use that to set the password protection by setting an AuthType in the file.
I suggest you add an SSL certificate (which you can get for free from LetsEncrypt) and use your webserver configuration to restrict access to a specific ip address.
These should get you a decent level of security.
Regards,
Richard
