Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the website: Retrieves and Downloads files from clients
Kind of development: Customization of existing website
Num. of web pages/modules: 1
Description of requirements/features: We have a tool which we coded that logs in to an online portal.
On the portal are various clients, we are provided with the username/password for each client.
The tool logs in and downloads data files belonging to the client and carries out various functions.
The only process we need changing is where the files are retrieved from, this is because:
When the tool was built, all files came from one URL - www.portal.com/abc/.... Now the client has added different databases and assigned different urls to them, so a client could sit on www.portal.com/abc2/... or www.portal.com/abc6/...
To be clear:
The main login screen is static - www.portal.com
After entering the username/password, the screen will direct the tool to the correct url...abc2 or abc4 or abc6 and so on.
Unfortunately, the initial code had the code hard-coded so always try and retrieve the file from /abc/...
We need someone to capture the variable within the URL, ie. abc2, and adjust the code so it is dynamic rather than static.
I can provide access to Git hub and point you to code which is doing the work.
This is quite a straightforward fix as a) all code is available and neatly written, b) the URL contains the exact information/variable you need and c) you can already see in the code where the static aspects are written, ie. lines of code that a hardcoded to got to /abc/... instead of $variable.
