Need help with site migration with CMS and database

Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the website: Website with custom CMS gives me mysql error on migration.
Database management system (DBMS): MySQL
Kind of development: Customization of existing website
Description of requirements/features: Heres what I need to do:
-I need to move clients website to a new server.
-New server is currently hosting clients old site therefore server is propely setup to proper domain name.
-New site uses a custom CMS and a database
-I have all the files + database of new site (which I didnt create)
heres what Ive done:
-I have uploaded all file to new server,
-I have created a database & User
-I have uploaded the database
-I updated db-config.php with proper db name, pass etc..
I get a blank page with mysql error...
-this new server does not use cpanel so Ive tried all them step on a uptodate cpanel server hoping the server was not compatible with new site but got the exact same error.
I need someone to fix this for me.
