Hi I am trying to set up a website with a ready made template, but struggling a bit

I have bought a template which I liked from themeforest.net, but when I loaded it - it just does not look like what was shown in preview. I cannot understand how I can get the menus in place and would have wanted to get a bit of guidance with the set up.
It is not a complicated site - just a blog and projects (films and photography). I thought I could do it myself, but spent the whole day today and got nowhere. Can you help or do you think I need to contact template owner?
