Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: less than 1 week
I have an old accounting bank analysis tool built in excel using VBA macros, I guess the sheet was last updated around the year 2000. The creator of the tool is no longer available and it is still being used by an accountancy client to carry out bank analysis for customers.
A copy of the sheet is saved with relevant transaction data for each customer each financial year.
I have limited knowledge of VBA and am seeking help to update the sheet for newer versions of Windows/Excel.
The sheet seems to work fine in Windows 7 and older, using excel 2010 and older (possible that more recent Excel works).
The newer machines running Windows 10 are experiencing some issues outlined below:
1. Menu buttons expand to cover transaction data after a certain number of transaction rows have been inserted (see screenshot) – The issue is appearing in Windows 10 in Excel 2010 & 2016 – I suspect the code behind the menus may need to be updated (if “hardware graphics acceleration” is disabled, the menus completely disappear)
2. When adding monthly transactions using the “Data” and “Data Entry” Menus (and when navigating other menus) – NumLock gets enabled and disabled (this is annoying as the keypad is often used for data entry) – I suspect this may be related to SendKeys function in the VBA code. I would like NumLock to remain off when entering data and when using the menus.
3. Excel seems to hang (take longer) on newer machines especially when running a “Data Enquiry” on data sets with 30+ items.
This project is for updating the sheet to address the issues outlined above as well as to advise on any setting changes or workarounds that could address issue number one on past customer files without the need to insert all data into the new updated sheet.
I can forward the spreadsheet on request.
Thanks
Edit: I overlooked a 4th issue - When using dual monitors, the menu appears on main display even is excel is opened on the second display. I would like resolving of this issue included in the project if possible. Thanks
