We have an Amazon EC2 m1.large instance running a single PHP 5.2 application using Apache2 and MySQL.

Was previously running on an m1.medium instance but we noticed that the site has become very slow to respond, > 10sec to load the homepage, on inspection of the output from the top command we discovered that mysqld was consistently occupying 100% of the CPU. After restarting the MySql and Apache2 services and some rudimentary attempts at tuning we decided this was the only option we had available to us.

Attached are some screenshots of the terminal output from htop, iostat before the instance change and iotop.

We're looking for someone who could perform some troubleshooting on the server to determine what the sudden peak of CPU utilisation by MySql. I can provide SSH and root access. We also have an additional EC2 instance which was launched from an AMI based on the production server.
