Description
Experience Level: Entry
General information for the business: I help music artists and bands improve their social media performance
Description of requirements/functionality: Error messages should be displayed to make tool easy to use.
A progress bar of some kind would be helpful, or an estimation of the remaining handles to be scraped.
OS requirements: Windows
Extra notes: I'm looking for a basic tool to allow me to gather the publicly listed data of twitter followers, to help me gain a more holistic picture of my followers.
A friend with a limited computer science background has built a basic tool in Java, which does everything I want it to, but it's not perfect.
I input the Twitter handles, and then it scrapes Twitter for publicly available information - namely the location listed on their bio, number of tweets, how many users they follow, how many followers they have, and the number of likes they have given.
The tool does just what I need, but it crashes frequently, and struggles to handle larger amounts of data, often becoming non-responsive.
I'm looking for a developer to build something which does the same as this tool, but can handle much more data. If you think the existing tool could be fixed to remove these problems, that would also be great.
I'm not sure what the best platform is for this. It would be good to discuss this with any prospective developer before deciding which platform would be most suitable. Ideally something simple like Java, which can be used on my windows laptop and without any developer experience, would be ideal.
I'm familiar with the respected rules of not scraping too much data too quickly - I just need a tool which can cope with a few thousand twitter handles and provide me with the relevant data. Any recommendations on how to make the process more efficient, as well as offers to complete the job would be most welcome.
Happy to explain things further if anything is unclear. I've attached images of the current tool in action.
