Description

Experience Level: Intermediate
New Betting System

1. Introduction

I have a requirement for an online programme that automates my betting system for use within a browser.

Currently I sell a betting "system" as an e-book. When I say "system", I mean that it is a written blueprint (in PDF format) that allows customers to follow a series of instructions in order to lock in profit from betting. Although the system does genuinely work, it is perceived as rather cumbersome and time-consuming by some customers. I therefore would like to hire a software developer to build a piece of software that executes the same steps automatically, thus making life easier for users.

I intend to continue to sell the e-book version, and will market the new software alongside it as a more expensive alternative.

2. Functions of the new Software

The e-book betting system works on an arbitrage principle, by exploiting trading gaps between different bookmakers and betting exchanges. Sometimes the opportunities identified by the system are only temporary, so the new software will have to to flag them up to the user promptly before they disappear. If the user wishes to place bets that exploit the highlighted gap(s), the software should help them by calculating the appropriate stakes, and presenting the relevant bet placement screen (at both the bookmaker's website, and on the betting exchange).

The software will need to support a panel of about twenty bookmakers and one or two betting exchanges.

The system is not based on a simple "back-and-lay" trade but rather requires some more complex calculations to arrive at the opportunities. However, these are all explained in the e-book version of the system (which is approximately 30 pages long), and in an Ms Excel spreadsheet, which currently does a lot of the calculations in a semi-automated way.

My intention is to allow the programmer to read the e-book and the spreadsheet so they understand the rules that they are being asked to implement.

It should be relatively easy to carry out system testing, as a "before and after test" can be performed to compare the manual and automated solutions.

3. Customer Access

Customers should be unable to install the new software on their own computer. Instead, they will be supplied with a password to a protected page on my website, where they will log in and use the new software as a subscription-only service. When their sunscription ends, their access should be automatically blocked. Unauthorised access must be prohibited.

The new software should be compatible with all major browsers (Chrome, IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera).

The website that I will be providing the subscription service from already exists. I have developed it as a Wordpress blog, and it now contains over 100 posts. I have quite a good community going on the site, with many commenters discussing both my and other people's betting systems.

I would prefer payments to be taken from customers using Paypal (which is what I use at the moment for selling my e-book).

It should be possible for a novice Wordpress blogger to maintain the customer database!
