Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
We are an innovative and successful niche charity-fundraising business, working for a whole range of different charities in the UK and abroad, mainly through Trust Fundraising (researching and making applications to Grant-Making Trusts, on behalf of charities). Please Google and understand what a Grant-Making Trust / Charitable Trust is and how they work, including how a charity applies to them, before applying to this listing.
As a new offering to the charity market-place we are soon to launch TWO new database SOFTWARE products, simultaneously:
1. A database for TRUSTS to manage their applications FROM charities each year, handle and analyse data, provide responses, etc. The product is probably 80% finished.
2. A database for CHARITIES to manage their fundraising TO trusts each year, handle and analyse data, create mailouts, etc. The product is probably 60-70% finished.
One serves each part of the market.
Both products are for small and medium sized Trusts and Charities, to compete with the top-end software (the likes of Benefactor for the 1st product and Raisers Edge for the 2nd product) but to provide a lower-cost and simpler alternative.
A lot of work over 18 months has already been put in by our own team, with both products designed on Access 2007, with a portion of pure-coding behind this as well by our team who have had to work this code out as they have gone along. The software will be sold as an ACCESS RUNTIME version. Charities, Trusts and Fundraisers have all been consulted and a lot of research and analysis has been done already for the structure and layout of the system, so it works best for the user.
We are NOT technical experts and now need an experienced Access programmer, and ideally a programmer who is happy in all languages, to:
a) Help to take some of the workload off us to finish the two products quickly as we wish to launch in the next 2 months. Some of this work will be further 'construction' of the system (e.g. "we need you to finish off the Correspondence tab by linking it to the Application section", or "can you add a form into the x section please and transport all the data into that from the y section), and some more simple aesthetic changes (e.g. "change the background of the main donor screen, alter the icons on the main menu buttons", etc).
b) Finish the last 10-20% of the more technical / complicated procedures which we do not have the experience to either do at all or to do well, or we have half-done and need finishing, e.g. slick mail-merging, multi-user access and 'locking' off data, separation of the product into front-end and back-end, advanced searching, packaging up the product, sending product updates remotely, etc.
It is impossible to say how many hours this will take, and to give a very in-depth budget at this stage, but we are quite far along in the process so this is not at an early stage and is more about "rounding off" the project for us. Much more detail, including a full sit-down meeting in-person, will be given to the successful candidate, who will also need to sign an NDA.
We are working to a tight budget for construction of the products, as our resources are being used up on marketing and branding and product launch, which is why we have done a lot of this ourselves thus far. This is the charity sector, so we will not be able to pay for high-level corporate programmers with huge hourly rates, but we feel this is an interesting project, and the products could end up doing well so the programmer will have that accolade on his / her CV.
We have researched programmers of this level on PPH and other projects of this nature, which seem to range from £10 to £20 an hour, so we will leave this open as the range for your best-value bids. We feel it is less about the best hourly rate for someone and more about securing some lengthy work, as there could be quite a number of hours involved, so we would also appreciate higher-level programmers reducing their hourly rate to be involved in an interesting project and securing work, because we won't be able to afford a high rate for any long length of time.
An Access-specific programmer used to building small databases with small businesses, with charitable experience, and working as a freelancer for a fair hourly rate, would be the ideal candidate.
You will see we have already paid out £1500 over 3 months for another business on this site, so we are trustworthy.
We look forward to hearing from you and seeing your bids. Please put as much information in as you can, including your availability because once work starts it will be quite heavy-going and a lot of "to-do"s will be sent over.
