Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
The objective of this project is to produce an application that will monitor a mySQL database and process any new records. Then to use the Open Office API to merge with an existing document and conditionally print it and export it to PDF.
The open office document will contain conditional formatting based on the record from the mySQL DB that is being merged.
This is a snippet of the larger specification that may help put the application in context:
Data Processing
The purpose of the data processing application is two-fold. Firstly to compute and save 'missing'
data in the database. Secondly to merge the new data with an Open Office Writer document and export the finalised report to PDF formant before sending it to the printer.
The missing information is any item of data required for the report that cannot be directly
spidered from a website. This will include (among others) the number of daily visitors a competing
website has is calculated by spidered data from Alexa multiplied by the estimated number of
Internet users.
When the data for a website report is complete (I.e. it has been spidered and processed) we will
use the Open Office API to complete the process. More information on the specifics can be found

The Open Office document will contain conditional formatting and text. Depending on the data in
the database, certain paragraphs will or will not appear in the final document. We will achieve this
with the conditional text feature in Open Office Writer. More information on this can be found
