You've probably seen plenty of these- 'we're developing a game' posts but I can honestly and categorically state that this is a real project and we are indeed building a game.
The game itself is for our client, which are a collective of musicians. Below is a short brief for your consideration:
Objective
To develop a game platform that, on it's own merit, will expose the band through the playability of the application.
Goals
Create a top 5 selling game application for smart phones whether the consumer has heard of the band or not and to expose the bands music and links to the main product, the band.
The Game
A destruction for success game platform (i.e angry birds)
The objective is to stage dive and crowd surf the members of the band across a stadium to smash the bears house where he holds all their music for their fans.. Breaking down the house releases the music to the fans!
- each level is a different track of the album
- all four members of the band will be on stage (characterised) therefore each level will have four attempts at breaking down the bears house.. Levels of increasing difficulty and strategy
- each level situation can be at a different world stadium venue or gig
- players could be rewarded by getting exclusive info, early ticket access, exclusive remixes, interviews, pre order album or even get the choice at the end of the game to pick a track of the album they love for free (with then a hot link to the rest of the album on
iTunes)
- as part of the app there will be links to website, iTunes, ticket sales, gig info, blogs, facebook, twitter
The reward is the playability of the game the bonus is falling in love with the music.
Possible add ons and extras
- fans could become the 5th member of the band.. Take a photo and the app will put your face on a characterised 5th member
- band member profiles
- Songify or LaDeDa audio manipulation app... You sing anything and it will digitally tune any recording to sing over the bands hits!
- a once a week live Skype forum conversation with the band themselves!
- push notifications to gigs and release dates of singles etc
- merchandise - band characters, printed T-shirts, crowd paraphernalia for gigs ie big foam versions of the characters to through around at gigs!
Costs and development
£2,000 - £8000 depending on the physics of the game.. The more complicated the playable movement is the more development and testing time needed
The consumer would pay £1.79 for the full game but get a light version for free
The App would only need to pay for its development as the true value is the secondary exposure and consumption of the bands product.
Only 4,469 apps would need to be downloaded to break even at the higher end cost projection.
Nb/: indie apps are the next big thing in gaming ie. Machinarium number 1 paid app
soundtrack syncs for the next big game applications would also be another app exposure
