General information for the app: A library of pdfs from the gas manufacturers split by screens below
Kind of development: New app from scratch
Num. of web pages/modules: Uncertain by about half a dozen
Description of every page/module: Probably home screen / appliance type / manufacturer / model / file name (pdf)

Bear in mind we have 8000 manuals to upload split by a couple of hundred manufacturers but I would assume there would have to be a program to upload the files as there are too many to type them!
Description of requirements/features: Hi Everyone
I run a document website that holds some 8,000 pdf manuals totalling 14gb that I supply to users free of charge to download.
I know of a company that has an android and iphone app that has around 5,000 manuals that can be accessed to view or downloaded and the cost of the app is a one off fee of £29.99. There is very low user volume in this activity but never the less it may lead to other things s I would like to see what the costs would be to investigate each operating system.
The competitors app can be viewed at and has split his manuals library into various topics so he can sell various apps containing differing manuals.
I am in the process of enhancing my library through all my contacts over the past 30 years so I have more options that what are on my website (
Obviously I would like some sort of encryption so someone just doesn’t copy my whole library and go off and replicate it.
I run the Joomla website but past that haven’t a clue about apps hence my questions.
Now clearly if I can think of 5 different apps from the library and there is iphone and android I don’t want to have 10 design costs. The way I see it in a simplistic fashion, I would need only a similar amount of screen to find each manual e.g. Home screen info/appliance type/manufacturer/model/file
At the moment the manuals are stored on a friends (programmer) server, would they be better duplicated on a cloud for an app?
Basically, I have the files, the search mechanism doesn’t need to be complicated, the app price would be similar to that of gasinstallersworkmate.
I want to keep this as cost effective as possible. If the first is successful would like an idea of repeat apps and any associated estimate costs per operating system (iphone/android) and per app development e.g. develop 1st app and mechanism, then further apps using the same design.
Please come back with your thoughts around the easiest and best process with associated costs and thoughts around fault resolution before and after any launch.
Specific technologies required: iphone and android as I am looking for costs

Extra notes: This has been on my mind for a while but the website is very low budget and has taken a while to create some funds so I am now in a position to source a potential solution.

Please tell me how you would approach this issue as it seems fairly simplistic in it's nature, the user is just accessing uploaded pdfs with very few screens (but I'll let you be the judge of how this can be achieved with the files being encrypted / protected, your thoughts?
