Experience Level: Intermediate
I am looking for someone to sell advertising space on a new online arts and entertainment magazine for Tunbridge Wells.

The magazine is a lively and intelligent digital aimed at people in their late twenties and over. They'll be educated, affluent and will enjoy going out, and the advertisements should reflect their interests in the arts, current affairs, fashion, design and so on.

There is no direct competition to the magazine, though there are various so-called lifestyle monthly magazines serving Tunbridge Wells. The magazine has roughly 20-30 pages and nearly all carry an ad panel. This panel allows for three sizes of ads - full length, one-third, and one-sixth. Obviously the price differs according to the size of ad.

The person, or people, I'm looking for should understand that although the magazine is commercially driven, it is not an ad-get publication. My experience as a journalist on national broadsheets has shown that when editorial quality comes first, good advertising will follow.

The ad sales person for the magazine will often need to educate potential advertisers to recognise this. The local magazines offer free editorial space or favourable coverage if the business take an ad, so unfortunately most advertisers expect that sort of deal.

That deal isn't on offer with the magazine. What is on offer is this: a unique digital magazine that delivers an affluent AB readership to local businesses, plus a direct online link to the advertiser's website. No print magazine has that level of immediacy.

If you are persuasive, persistent and personable then do get in touch. The ads will be designed in-house if necessary, so I'm looking for someone who shares the principles of the magazine and can convince people that they are better off advertising in our magazine than in anything else.
