Experience Level: Expert
We are a small family run jewellery business and whether we like it or not, we are competing with the likes of other large retail jewellers (argos, beaverbrookes etc).

I have set up a site uk which is designed to offer customers a competitive price for their scrap, broken and unwanted jewellery. In the online world, we presently offer customers more than any other for their gold. The kind of customers who send gold to us are the average Jo public who have grown out of the fashion of having "sovereign" earrings and chunky bling round their necks. They may want to liquidise cash for deposit for a house, or to go towards a car or similar. This site is presently live and attracts c. 150 visitors per day. roughly 2% of total visitors send gold by post to us on a daily basis. I would like to increase this conversion rate by creating a better quality site. I would also like to increase my ranking with Google (attracting more customers naturally without having to pay for advertising).

We occasionally get customers with Platinum to sell. These customers are a different kind of customer as people with platinum tend to be more middle class. We rarely buy platinum jewellery from the public, but tend to attract customers with industrial platinum. e.g. platinum wire, crucibles, pins etc. as such, I have purchased a separate domain name for this with the intention of making the site look and feel a little more scientific, but it is essentially the same site as the gold one. I have yet to complete the site or make it live. We receive platinum c. once every fortnight, which is fair considering that we do not advertise that we buy platinum.

Eventually, my intention will be to create a third site which sells jewellery.

Initially, I would be looking for somebody to help develop thwe site with me. If this goes well, I would look to making improvements to the other site and eventually expand to an e-commerce solution for the online jewellery shop.

Initially, if you could give me an idea about timescales and costs for helping me put something together for the platinum site, it would be much appreciated. I have taught myself how to use dreamweaver, indesign and photoshop etc whilst creating the original site but it just takes me too much time to learn and do it all myself! I would be looking to work closely with you to complete this project.

I am aware that cross browser functionality is not great at the moment and I am looking to make fully css compliant sites. The current banner is definitely too crowded and doesn't look great, but then again, I am not a web designer! :)

I am interested to know all your thoughts.

Kind regards
