Description

Experience Level: Expert
I have a client that is building a ecommerce site in Poland - they have some questions relating to this market. I would need someone experienced in the Polish market to provide the answers to the following questions below.

1 - Payment methods. Our research shows that c. 70% of online purchases are paid either using cash on delivery or a bank transfer initiated offline (i.e. a customer makes a transfer at their local bank branch).

- This data is a couple of years old and is very different from what we have in the UK, so we want to make sure that it makes sense. Does it sound about right to you or has the world of e-commerce come a long way since then?

- Offline bank transfers appear to leave a lot of room for human error: the customer may record the retailer’s bank details incorrectly or not label their transfer properly. Do the online retailers absorb the cost / time involved in matching the individual customer transfers against customer orders? Or are there intermediaries offering this service? If so, are there any companies that you have come across offering this service?

2 - In your opinion, at a minimum, which payment options must be offered for an online proposition to be viable?

- Do you have any research reports in this area readily available that you might be able to share with us?

3 - Payment providers. We have identified a number of payment services providers in Poland. The more popular providers appear to be Dotpay.pl (previously Allpay.pl), Platnosci.pl and Przelewy24.pl, but there are a whole host of others.

- Do you think that it is important to use a payment service provider that consumers trust and recognise? If so, who, in your opinion, are the trusted payment providers? Or are consumers fairly ambivalent as to who processes the payment?

4 - Shipping methods:

- As far as you are aware, is the service offered by Polish Post reliable or do customers prefer to see alternative shipping options?

- We have come across the paczkomat service. Do you know if it has much traction?

5- Digital agencies. Have you worked with any digital agencies in Poland that you would recommend to us?
