Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I have a pdf file created in in design – which is aimed to be a ebook. It has 281 pages of text with illustrations and tables throughout. My aim is to have it as pdf to sell and then, at some point in the near future, also create an epub version for vendors such as Amazon etc. But, for now, it is pdf.
The book is completed and tolerable but I don’t like it. However, I will have to make do, at least for now as neither time nor money allows for reformatting. I am nit an in design user at all but I am proficient in many programmes and this is not my first book. I think what should have been done is to create some kind of template (with paragraph styles and titles) and then import from word. Instead, what the person did is manually copy and paste 280 pages, which created many mistakes (missed out on paragraphs; duplicated paragraphs) and also soace between paragraphs is manual and titles are not automatic – space between words and tiles – all of that is somewhat improvised. I simply cannot believe that in design operates manually like that.
With that in mind, the table of contents has been done in the same vain. What I had expected was an automatic one (but as the document was not formatted properly to begin with, of course that hasn’t happened. It’s all been done manually. And it is too wobbly – inconsistent… So, I was wondering whether it’d be possible to recreate just the table of contents – manually as it is not automatically responsive. The page number are all correct, so is the information on the current one – it is just poorly designed.
It is it possible to take those pages out of the document. There are 5 in total. It won’t upset the order of anything as p1 starts from Introduction, which follows. It won’t upset what’s before either. Create a new one from a new template but by emulating font and style from the existing document – so that it looks good and logical. And then insert back into existing document. There are 4 main parts of the book (biggest font). Then there are chapter heading levels (next font down in relation to parts) – although I don’t call them chapters. Then there are sub-chapter levels (smaller font than chapters). And a final one, which is sub-section within subheadings. That’s a smaller font still. Italics and bold are also use to connote the difference. The point is to offer the reader a visual guide. It’s really not rocket science. It’s basic. I just don’t know how the person got is so wrong, ideally it should have been automatic – but my designer simply did not have the right skill.
The document is in pdf and in indesign. I would need it back as soon as possible.
Could you do it?
How much it would cost me?
When could I have the document back?
What would you need from me?
Thank you, Lida
