Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
What we are looking for
Someone who loves designing visually pleasing websites that adhere to usability, accessibility and coding best practices.
We are looking for someone who can turn low-fidelity wireframes into beautiful screen designs and takes pride in what they do.
We have the in-house skills to code these but if you do too that would be a bonus.
We'll always provide you with wireframes and design guidelines but leave you the headspace required to find a design that will balance the end-user, creative, technical and business objectives of the project at hand.
We'll conduct usability tests to suggest revisions but won't stick our oar in, in a subjective manner. We are happy for you to take the lead in terms of aesthetics but this always must be balanced with the needs of our Clients.
Hopefully this will be the first of many project that we have the opportunity to collaborate on so please only respond if you are interested in developing a long-term relationship.
Requirements
- fluent English
- demonstrable experience of website/user interface design
- sound understanding of graphic design principles
- proficiency using whatever design tool works best for you (Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, OmniGraffle etc.) We care less about the tools you use than the ability to work quickly and efficiently and produce great work.
- understanding of how and why an interface succeeds or fails and an ability to spot potential issues in flow, layout, copy or presentation
- demonstrable ability to adhere to critical project timelines
- demonstrable experience of working independently under minimal supervision and collaborating remotely
- portfolio of work demonstrating an appreciation of user experience and visual design evidenced by your command of visual/interface composition & design skills, typography, consistency, documentation, use of colour, iconography, and layout - and most of all, meticulous pixel-perfect detail.
- knowledge and experience of what is possible and what isn't possible when converting a screen design into HTML/CSS markup to avoid 'it looks great in Photoshop but we can't reproduce it in html' issues.
Beneficial:
- design-related or human factors studies educational background would be preferred, but we're aware a degree doesn't imply talent (and vice versa).
- HTML, CSS skills
Deliverables Required
- design comps
- production of visual assets
- documentation required for proper implementation.
Your designs will go from communicating the high level look and feel and continue through to implementation.
UI details from button clicks to complex, multi-step processes will need visual definition suitable for implementation.
You will be responsible for full screen comps, creation of individual visual assets and icon creation.
Therefore, attention to detail and the ability to document and deliver your vision is critical.
Experience & Demonstration of skills
An available portfolio of visual interaction design solutions.
We value enthusiasm and dedication over experience. That said, we will need you to be able to demonstrate this.
You must have at least 3 completed projects under your belt.
This could be work you have done as a student or freelancer but what is important is that they are still accessible online.
We would like to see a range of final deliverables and interim deliverables created during the course of a project.
Please indicate your role and contribution for each project submitted.
We need this in order to learn more about the way you work and to validate any references you supply.
