Description

Experience Level: Expert
The task is to develop a branding presenting the company name, ideally also with, or incorporated into, a graphical logo, for a company manufacturing and supplying accessories for the astronomy markets, both professional, educational and hobbyist. The design will be featured on business cards, letterhead and the company's web site, as well as its products. This task is specifically to create the branding: design of the printed materials and web site is not part of the task.

The company's name is Alt-Az Ltd. The name derives from a two-co-ordinate system used for aiming a telescope: altitude (angle upwards from the horizon) and azimuth (angle relative to North): commonly abbreviated to "alt-az". For more details, take a look at the Wikipedia page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altazimuth_mount

It is important to recognise that the company's target market is comprised of individuals of considerable intelligence, knowledge and passion for their subject (and often a reasonable disposable income). They have repeatedly been shown to prefer sellers who present a professional, respectful image over those whose corporate identity is more light-hearted.

The image we are seeking to present is professional but modern, and clearly astronomical in nature. The branding should be clear and easily recognisable when screen-printed on our products in a single colour, although additional highlight colours are permissible for the web site and printed paper (letterhead, business card) versions. On some products, the whole branding may be as small as 1x2.5cm (perhaps even less); on others it may be as much as 30cm wide, so it should be clean and uncluttered, without so much detail in the graphical elements that it cannot scale easily. We consider that it would be preferable for graphical elements to be line-based and/or with solid blocks of colour, rather than greyscale-based, as this will look better when printed onto some fabrics, and will scale well.

Any third-party font or graphical content used in the branding must be permissible for commercial use, and carry no licensing fees.

The deliverables will be:
1. final artwork in the form of high-resolution PNG and/or SVG graphical images;
2. a definition of the colour(s) used (ideally by reference to Pantone number);
3. the TrueType font(s) used (the actual TTF font file(s), not just the name(s)), along with a description of the source of the font (e.g. URL) and a copy of any licence terms applicable;
4. if third-party graphical content has been used, a copy of the content, a description of its source (e.g. URL), and a copy of any licence terms applicable.

Upon successful completion of the assignment, and your receipt of payment in full from us for it, you irrevocably assign full and absolute ownership of the intellectual property in all materials you have created in course of this assignment to Alt-Az Limited.
