Description
Experience Level: Entry
Estimated project duration: less than 1 week
Information for the business: Volunteer (unpaid) author
Industry: Publishing/Journalism
Design details: We are looking for a cover design - 200mm high x 130mm wide, spine width 20mm
Leaving some room for publisher branding and elements such as photo and the code.
- The overall concept is a 'snapshot of a moment' in Westminster, London. With main background being Big Ben on a clear day (include any other element such as river, trees, as long as Big Ben recognisable). This is important to recognise clearly as 'London' because some readers have never visited London so will need this not to be too abstract
- Foreground - small number of people i.e. 3-5 clear passers by, walking, on a bench, looking up, etc. In this it's important there must be 2 or more visibly Indian-origin older people, e.g. at least one man with a Sikh turban, one brown woman, one white man in a suit, in the London setting
Target audience: Traditional older people
Ideas for the visual style: Freehand Digital, Gouache, Watercolour, Collage
Things to avoid: Abstract art, childrens
Preferred colors: Not too dark
Urls to draw inspiration from: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/55e298b4e4b09472b9d50d50/55e29e4ee4b01c33a5799456/561a2e21e4b0a6f765ed49de/1458237458767/Teresa%27sMan_Cover.jpg?format=750w
Where the design will be used: Print
Extra notes: About The Book
London Vich Apne Lok (aka Apne Lok) is a take on today's British Indians in London. The series of 20+ short stories combines true and imagined accounts, with familiar as well as hidden/unspoken scenarios. Some of these include homosexuality, racism to other migrants, and embezzlement in religious places. What's most delightful is that they all end in in surprise and light humour. Some of the collection has already been published in international Punjabi magazines, and received incredibly well by the Indian as well as international literary audience - the former due to its candid view on fellow Indians, and the latter due to the sharp reality. However, there is little incme to be made in the Pubnjabi literary scene so the book is being produced low budget.
