New world map

Hi, my name is Simon. I’m currently preparing a new project and I need designers. We are starting a company which will specialize in personalised printable maps. My idea is that we will create a beautiful world map (not your ordinary boring one) which people will be able to customize through adding their photos, writings and home location. For your inspiration, I have attached a few photos of other maps.

This design will be the first in a long line. I would like to create multiple versions of it in the future and after that, I would like to create one map for every country, but that’s long ahead of us.

The task now is to start. This world map will be printed in bigger sizes, we are talking 60x90 cm, 70x100 cm and the smallest will probably be around 50x70 cm, so please adjust your designs to it.

If you take a look at picture number 1 that is attached here. I would like to have icons that characterize that part of the world (in the picture there are giraffes, butterflies, sharks..) but I want some of these icons to be things from this list: Pyramids, Chichen Itza, Cristus statue – Rio de Janeiro, Great wall of china, Machu Picchu, Colosseum, Tádž mahal, Amazon rainforest, Himalajas – mount Everest, Sahara, Great barrier reef, Grand canyon, Mauna loa – biggest volcano, Mariana trench, Baikal lake… You can even find something else, it depends on you, but it should be specific to that part of the world. Just don’t overuse it, please. You can also make small points for the capital cities of the countries.

I will leave the background and the colours up to you, but maybe for this first design, it would be better to start with something lighter.

As we will use the personalisation let there some space for the description. For this design, we will use 2 lines. First: „Better to see something once than hear about it a thousand times“, second: Our world.
I will leave fonts up to you, we can change them if it’s going to be necessary.

Second personalisation aspect is photos. People will upload several photos and we will put them into the map ideally along the side or in the oceans. Don’t put these photos straight on the continents. If you can put the photos into some frames, it would be perfect. For this design I attached 10 photos, please try to put the right amount of them into the design so we know how many photos we should ask our customers for.

Third personalisation is their home location. It’s just a country and the city that they are from. Please make that country with a different colour or just distinguish it somehow from other countries. For the inspiration on how to highlight the city, see picture n. 2. In this design, use the Czech Republic and the city of Prague.

We want to look at this map and see their lives in it.
