Description
Experience Level: Expert
Information for the business: Industrial manufacture
Industry: Business
Design details: Hello,
We require a mechanical design to automate the production process on our production line.
Currently, our production line consists of a conveyor belt with square dough sheets placed next to each other. The operator then has to pick each sheet up and place it onto the press (as shown in the attached drawing with detailed dimensions),
We require a design to automate this pick and place process. The placement of each sheet is important, as it has to be square on the press mechanism. Also, the dough sheets must remain reasonably horizontal as it is being transferred onto the press mechanism.
The above automation described is essentially what we need.
We are flexible in how to achieve this. i.e we could someone integrate the press into the conveyor. However, we need to place each sheet onto the press repeatedly and with the same alignment each time.
What we need is a 'proof of concept design'. After we have a proof of concept we would award the job to the designer for detailed mechanical drawings and a CAD model.
Ideas for the visual style: Mechanical automation
Extra notes: See attached drawing of the process which required automation.
The design should cover everything required in order to transfer the sheet horizontally onto the press mechanism.
The dough sheets are quite 'flimsy', therefore they will need to be supported horizontally as they are moved. The dough shhets are only 1mm thick, therefore must remain horizontal as they will contain a deposit of filling in the centre which should not be disturbed too much.
We are open to any other ways in which we can achieve this automation.

Hello, I just would like to know how does the removing of the ready product work now? Manually by operator?
Buraidah O.12 Jan 2017Hi,
Yes, at the moment the finished product is removed by hand - we will continue to do this manually.
It is only the first stage of moving the sheets onto the press we would like to automate.
RegardsGabor C.12 Jan 2017Thanks for the answer, however I have more questions:
1.Looks like a pneumatic actuated butterfly valve :) Could you explain in a few sentence how does pressing mechanism work?
2. Just a silly question: why do you need to automate feeding, when removing is done manually. Manual steps in the process are always bottlenecks.
