Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Information for the business: We build houses
Design details: I would like to have an engineer design a steel stringer system for a ‘floating’ staircase that we’ll be installing in a new house we’re currently building. I’ve talked with a local steel shop that can fabricate it, but they need engineering to tell them the size of steel to use for the I-beam, the tread plates, the dimensions, etc.
I’ve included pictures that show nearly exactly what I’m looking for. It’s a switchback staircase, and basically I’d just like what I assume will be a steel i-beam running horizontally in the wall, with steel plates that I can lag 4-1/8” thick x 45” wide x 10” deep red oak treads to. The landing should be designed to match. The pictures named “Example_00.jpg” and “Example_01.jpg” show examples that very closely resemble what we’re looking for. I believe this will make sense once you’ve looked at them.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Attachment Info:
Example_00.jpg and Example_01.jpg – Examples of a similar staircase.
Stair Detail.pdf – Stair detail provided by the truss designer.
Basement Blueprint Snippet.JPG – Snippet of the basement blueprints showing the stairs.
Ideas for the visual style: Try to replicate the example
Extra notes:
