Description
Experience Level: Entry
So here goes, essentially I want to 3D print a wheel or ‘pattern’ when I say pattern this is a pattern for casting a model steam locomotive set of wheels. The 3D printing will be a replica of what will be cast in iron but the wheel will be linked with channels (ways the molten iron flows from one wheel to another) to other wheels in the same horizontal casting box. So in 1 pour of iron you get say 6 to 8 wheels depending on the size. This guy is doing something very similar but far more amateur in aluminium. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQgvPHst03E
Note the pattern is in 2 parts for the top and 1 for the bottom of the box. My version is just to have the rim and a ‘centre axel 'stub’ in the 2nd half to allow for pulling out the pattern once the sand form is made. If this does not quite make sense please see the following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk1JOYzwRP4
and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81W-pkHeTyo
The basic idea of the wheel pattern can be seen very well by this Dude in the USA. Please note the back ring that attaches to the rear of the wheel pattern. This is what I want to achieve. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlTV06Tc7go
So I have the drawings with dimensions of the wheels. I also have the CAD drawings of the finished item including a version of the patter in software called eDrawings? Have you seen this? So I guess the timesaving part is done. See http://www.edrawingsviewer.com/
However I need these files adjusted to allow for multiple wheels in a pattern say 6, 3 above the over 3 linked with channels to allow iron to flow. The idea being the final design will allow 3D casting of a front and rear pattern to allow the wheels to be cast.
This is a trial to see if we can get this to work. We have many wheels we would like to have patterned in 3D printing so this job could grow over the months to come.
If you need more info please drop me a text or watsapp 07863334554 as I done often log in over the weekend.
Thankyou for visiting this job,
David.
