Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
We are an established brand based in the UK. We design and manufacture specialist products for the marine environment; primarily sleeping bags and pillows.
We are revising our product range throughout 2014/15 and in the first instance we are looking to produce a prototype pillow case.
After the prototype, we intend to put into production, first on a short run of approx. 30 - 50 units. We would hope a short run might be available for the late Christmas / New Year market.
We are looking for an experienced cutter / seamstress to work with us in this process. We have an approximate performance specification and an initial rough design requirement. We've also sourced likely material for the prototype. However, we would welcome input from an experienced seamstress as we develop the prototype.
We are keen to retain manufacture within the UK.
The design and manufacture of the pillow case is clearly a relatively simple task. However, there are some additional features including pockets for storage, which would need to be incorporated within the design and manufacture.
In the first instance, we invite bids on a labour only basis. We will supply all materials. The bid should comprise:
(i) Your hourly rate for work (cutting patterns and manufacture of prototype) and
(ii) Your best estimate of the likely time required to prepare patterns and construct prototype.
(iii) In addition, we expect to spend up to 2 hours working with you in the selection of the final materials, agreeing methods for construction )i.e. when to double stitch / alternate construction methods, etc). We would ask that you allow for 2 hours for this consultation work in your bid.
Following successful completion and testing of the prototype, we would agree a price for subsequent short production run of 30 - 100 units initially.
We are keen to retain manufacture within the UK in the long term and may also expand our product range with the help of the selected individual. We also sell specialist marine sleeping bags.
