Description of support work: We have a few issues with a new server that we’ve installed ourselves. We are based in Old Street (London) and have around 15 work stations, Mac and Windows machines connecting via the SMB protocol to an Ubuntu Linux fileserver running Samba. The problem we are having is that the Macs are not inheriting the explicit file and directory permissions set in the Samba config file (they are ignoring group permissions). We don't know whether the problem lies with the Macs' Samba implementation or the Samba config, or maybe both. One of our team members is fairly switched on with this type of stuff hence we’ve got this far but I think we are admitting defeat and that we need external help.

We can happily answer any questions you have on email or we can set up call to tell you more about the problems we are experiencing.

Thanks Nigel.

    Hello Nigel,
Could you provide both, samba server running on Ubuntu, and samba client version used in Mac clients?

By your words I assume you're not having this (or another) issue from Windows baed clients, but is not bad to ask, just to be sure.
