Description
Experience Level: Expert
General information for the business: Investment Management
Industry: Business
Description of excel work: Dear Expert,
Currently, I am working on domestic and foreign institutional investment (aggregate share holdings %) and their effect on firm performance (EBITDA). I have a sample of 67 firms, that of course have information on latter variables.
I will lead you through my files. First file: Aalberts Industries NV. This file shows the company Aalberts Industries NV its' shareholders. So, I have 66 files more like this. Each shareholder is displayed with their country of origin and type and amount of ownership per fiscal year end.
My father started working on transforming the data in the second file: Aalberts Industries NV (changed). I don't exactly know what he has done, but he's leading the way into a better file. I would like to have an aggregated % of domestic (country type: NL) vs foreign (country type: non-NL) per year. I don't want you to include type I into the calculation, as they are no institutions but people. Moreover, I would like the aggregate holdings per letter per year (except I of course). I think it is really simple and I cannot understand why it is so hard, but my father tells me the main problem is the text in the columns, which are not needed. My father also combined letters into alternative vs. traditional investor types. This is not necessary if there is a simple e.g. pie chart, where I can simply add them up later. So I would like you to first look at the separate letters (types of shareholders).
My proposal is: if you can manage to get a clear output for this Aalberts file you can use the formula for the other companies as well. I hope when you have done Aalberts it is really simple to do the other ones as well. Then I want you to select only > or equal as 1% ownership and aggregate it, as well as the types. This probably would lead to a small change in the equation.
If this is well-executed I would like you to include other data as well, but let's first see if this is working.
Job time indication would be 10 hours total, in case of everything. I think 1 hour is appropriate for getting to know this first file and make it interpretable for me. After this first hour I could imagine that the rest of the firms 66 will cost +- 4/5 hours. Then integrating all the data of course would lead to 4/5 hours again.
I hope you can help me,
Kind regards,
Ilka
