Description of excel work: We are an engineering company. Our task is to survey a huge structure and record defects in the structure. These defects are recorded based on a series of pre-defined categories and criteria. We have an Excel Spreadsheet designed to do this, which we are happy with. In order to support each entry we require a photo of the relevant defect, which is where we need help. The spreadsheet needs to contain the images, for ease of referencing, but the rows need to be 'normal' size, so inserting an image directly into a cell is not an option, hence the desire to use a "comment" for the purpose. The engineer completing the survey will be abseiling down the structure on ropes, using a ruggedized tablet running Windows 8.1 pro and Excel 2010. He will make his notes and then take the photo with the tablet of the defect. We need a method within the excel spreadsheet report to put the captured image into the appropriate row and into a comment.
Extra notes: The content of the spreadsheet will be copied and pasted into a larger spreadsheet upon return to the office, the latter report being the basis of the report to the client.
The purpose of having the images captured in this way to alleviate having to record image numbers and then add them to the report after the survey is complete. The theory is that the completed site survey for a given section of the structure can be loaded to Dropbox or equivalent and passed to the office without having to wait for the engineers to return to the office with the data and pictures, where the two will be married together.
