Description
Experience Level: Expert
Research Topic: Location Independent Work / Remote Working / ‘Digital Nomadism’
Specific Questions I am interested in the answers to:
How many people work remotely? Remote working being defined as not having an office location to work from each day. Could be called a 'digital nomad', but could also be someone who works from home everyday.
Of those who work remotely, how many choose to work from home versus travelling, or working from another country? 'digital nomads' fitting the later description.
Focusing on the group of people who travel, or work permanently or often from a country which isn't their 'home country’ (the 'digital nomads' or ‘location independent workers’)...
How often do they move around?
Do they live permanently in another country, or do they move around?
If they move around: how often do they tend to move around? (e.g.Every month, every 3 months, every 6 months)
Do they go from place to place,or do they have a ‘home base’ that they go back to each time/often between stints of remote work?
Do they tend to just move around whenever they like? If so what is the average amount of time they spend in each place?
Who do they travel with?
How many travel and work alone vs in a group?
In a pair: with their boy/girlfriend or husband/wife?
Or as a family that travels, i.e. with children?
Where do they stay?
Do they use Airbnb or other platforms?
If they use other platforms, what do they use?
Geographies:
What are the most visited countries or continents?
If it's possible to get an idea of the split of what countries are visited, and what 'method of stay' is used. that would be ideal.
e.g. x number/% of nomads are in eastern europe, and of those 30% stay in airbnbs, 25% stay in a homeaway, 25% stay in hotels, 15% stay with friends or family, and 5% in 'other' (hostels, RV, camping, etc)
Where is Home?
Where do remote-workers / digital nomads come from (nationality)?
Money
What currency do they get paid in?
