Now it\u2019s up to them to sell themselves and their services to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It should be a straightforward process to go through their proposals and draw up a shortlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never forget that this next stage of the selection process is a two-way conversation, and the chance for you and your shortlisted candidates to go into a lot more detail about what you require from each other\u2026 and what each of you can give in return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to ask your shortlisted candidates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Do they have examples of work similar to what you\u2019re looking for?<\/li><li>Are they full-time freelancers, or just picking up evening and weekend work?<\/li><li>What other projects are they working on at the moment?<\/li><li>How much time can they devote to your job each day?<\/li><li>Can they start right away?<\/li><li>How long do they think it would take?<\/li><li>What else can they add to your job?<\/li><li>Are there any \u201cextras\u201d they\u2019re not quoting for?<\/li><li>Why do they want to work on this job in particular?<\/li><li>What other areas do they specialise in?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to share with your shortlisted candidates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Exactly what you\u2019re expecting them to do for you \u2013 in more detail than your original job posting<\/li><li>Why the job needs doing in the first place \u2013 a bit of background information could lead to some useful suggestions<\/li><li>How many revisions \/ first-round concepts you\u2019re expecting them to provide<\/li><li>Who\u2019s responsible for image licencing payments<\/li><li>The deadline (don\u2019t forget the \u201cwiggle room\u201d)<\/li><li>Payment milestones if they\u2019re charging by the hour<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to check when looking for a freelancer on PeoplePerHour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every PPH freelancer has their own profile page, so prospective clients can easily learn more about them at a glance. On that profile page, you\u2019ll find:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cert.jpg\" alt=\"cert\" width=\"573\" height=\"90\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cert.jpg 573w, https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cert-300x47.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cert-60x9.jpg 60w\"><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Their CERT rating<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This algorithm ranks freelancers from 1 up to 5, and then \u201cTop\u201d in terms of their&nbsp;<strong>Contribution<\/strong>&nbsp;to the PPH community\u2026 their&nbsp;<strong>Engagement<\/strong>&nbsp;with clients, which includes speed of response, timeliness of delivery and other aspects of being totally professional\u2026&nbsp;<strong>Repeat<\/strong>&nbsp;orders and \u2013 last but not least \u2013&nbsp;<strong>Trust<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/feedback.png\" alt=\"feedback\" width=\"865\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/feedback.png 865w, https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/feedback-300x147.png 300w, https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/feedback-60x29.png 60w\"><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Feedback from previous clients<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Always worth looking through, no matter how many pages it goes on for. If there\u2019s a single mention of something not going quite right, it could mean the freelancer was having a bad day\u2026 but if it\u2019s frequently brought up by clients, as in \u201cnot as fast in communicating as I\u2019d have liked\u201d, then consider it a red flag. On the other hand, many clients say they\u2019d use a particular freelancer again, which, from a freelancer\u2019s point of view, is always nice to hear. It\u2019s also reassuring to look through the jobs they\u2019ve done to find that the client really has used them again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Their total earnings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve got a calculator handy, you could work out how much they\u2019d have earned on a weekly basis if you really felt like it, but they might have been working for some other client they found elsewhere for months at a time. After all, we\u2019re not the only job board on the internet (even if we *are* the best;) ). If, however, that freelancer has been with us for a very long time but hasn\u2019t done much in the way of work, you might want to wonder why, especially if there are no endorsements from clients outside PPH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/portfolio.png\" alt=\"portfolio\" width=\"866\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/portfolio.png 866w, https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/portfolio-300x208.png 300w, https:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/portfolio-60x42.png 60w\"><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Their portfolio<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That should give you an idea of what they\u2019ve done for other clients and what they could do for you. If there isn\u2019t one\u2026 well, there should be one.
