Meet Chichi, a London-based freelance beauty writer and blogger who has worked with brands such as KLM Beauty, Divatress, Leighton Denny, Lee Stafford, NYX Cosmetics, Shea & Coconut, Afrocenchix, Afro Hair Skin and Co., Arbonne, Kypwell, Culti, Bali Balm and Merumaya.

Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into freelancing?

My name is Chichi and I am from London. I am a freelance beauty writer and I run a beauty blog. I got into full-time freelancing last year in February. I simply worked harder on my blog, set up my business website, set up a profile on PeoplePerHour and started searching for clients. Before I took the plunge full-time, I already had a client lined up and that encouraged me to make the leap full-time.

What was your previous job before deciding to go freelance?

I worked in various roles. I completed work experience placements in public relations and magazine journalism, and I worked in marketing and branding roles.

How did you come across PeoplePerHour?

I’d heard of PeoplePerHour via word of mouth, and I’d always come across the website when searching for freelance work online.

What was your first job like on PeoplePerHour?

It was really good. I had to write a business and marketing plan for a client as she was lovely to work with.

What is a typical day like for you?

I get up in the morning and have my usual routine. Then I get to work on assignments, taking breaks throughout the day. I take my lunch break later on in the day and I make during my working day to deal with emails and general admin.

How does freelancing compare to a 9-5?

I find that freelancing allows me to have total freedom, control and flexibility over my own work and schedule. I can work when I want, where I want and I make time for other things too.
