PeoplePerHour’s new pricing is here!

Hey PPHers,

The first of August is upon us and with that, our new pricing takes effect starting today. In case you missed the email and our prior blog post, below are some highlights that you should know. All the nitty-gritty is in our updated Terms & Conditions.

Posting Hourlies, Jobs, and creating a Profile remains free
Get creative and post an Hourlie now. If you have a project you need help with, post a Job. Or, if you’re just browsing and getting your feet wet, create a Profile and start to establish yourself. Commission Fees are only incurred by the Seller. So if you purchase an Hourlie, the fee is paid by the person who delivers the service to you.

Commission Fees—simplified!
We’ve simplified things by eliminating our previous subscription plans. Now, it’s as easy as getting Jobs done. All work billed through the site will incur a 3.5% Commission Fee, apart from the first £175 in the month (€210 and $280 equivalent), which will incur a 15% fee. Thought of differently, a typical user who puts all of his or her work through PPH will only pay 3.5% apart from one day a month.

We’ll be supporting the above by moving to a monthly billing cycle. This means that initially a 15% Commission Fee is applied and then at the end of the month, once all Invoices have been reconciled, we’ll reimburse your PPH Wallet for the difference between the 15% and the 3.5% Fee for Invoices raised above £175.

Depending on where the Seller is based, VAT may automatically be added on top of the Commission Fees described above.

15 Free Proposals, A New Free Payment Transfer Option, and Daily Disbursements
It’s hard to argue with free, so we’ve made a few things standard. First, we’ve given you 5 more Proposals per month for free. That brings the total to 15… one for every other day of the month! If you need more, you can purchase more.

We’ve added free ‘ACH money’ option for the withdrawal of funds (in USD) out of your PPH Wallet as an option for US users (‘BACS’ remains free for UK users). Other premium money movement options such as credit card or PayPal incur a 1.9% fee. For complete details, please see our Terms & Conditions.

Finally, we’re announcing daily disbursements! That’s right. We’re upping the frequency at which you can request funds to be transferred out of your PPH Wallet, to daily. This will shorten the amount of time it takes for funds to arrive in your account—making them arrive up to 50% faster for many. Now every day on PPH is a pay day!

Pricing that Guides Our Growth
We toiled over these changes. In the end, it’s our purpose that drove us to our decision to deliver the industry’s best pricing by focusing on the goal: to make PPH the place you call home. So that’s what we did. We structured the pricing such that the more work you do on PPH each month, the lower your blended rate becomes. This is focused squarely on supporting our most loyal users by delivering the least expensive pricing structure possible and in effect, by encouraging you to do more than purely ad hoc work through PPH each month.

Our new Hourlies transform the way people think about getting Jobs done online and, as a by-product, encourage more activity, more quickly for our users. We’ve heard some early stories about how an Hourlie was purchased, which led to another Job, and yet another bigger Job. For us, it’s like watching a new sport in the Olympics debut!

We believe that these changes – along with the recent site enhancements – bring us closer to our mission of helping people become more independent and living out their dream to build up their business one hour at a time.

If you’d like to ask any questions or to have your voice heard, be sure to sign up for one of PPH’s CEO Xenios’ weekly Hangouts. Xenios hosted his first Google Hangout last week and we’re aiming to make it a weekly event. Space is limited, so sign up today! And if you miss this week’s, there’s always the next.

Thank you for bearing with us through all of the changes recently. Your stories about how you’re using PPH inspire us to keep pushing the envelope and delivering on making PeoplePerHour the best place to get Jobs Done!

Thanks,
The PeoplePerHour Community Team

Preferred the previous pricing model to be honest – simpler, easier to plan for and none of this crediting at the end of the month which will make my paperwork a lot harder!

You call this simplified ?

“Depending on where the Seller is based, VAT may automatically be added on top of the Commission Fees described above.” Can you explain that in more detail please, a LOT of us are very confused by this. Also: “This is focused squarely on supporting our most loyal users by delivering the least expensive pricing structure possible and in effect, by encouraging you to do more than purely ad hoc work through PPH each month.” Doesn’t this statement (about your new fees) go directly against what you’redoing with the Hourlies, in that you’re promoting that as a way to earn extra… Read more »

Which countries are affected by the VAT on top of the rates?

So the job I did last month for £100 netted me £90, this month it’ll only earn me £85, so that’s good… I’m unsure if your new £175 threshold (previously £150) means for all work done during a month, or only for single invoices of more than £175. The post above seems to say both. I need to know now, as my client likes to pay in £100 chunks, now I don’t know whether to invoice him now or wait ’til I’ve earned £175, though I need the money. On the other hand I see you’ve left Tim above hanging… Read more »

This seems very fair and I hope to reap the benefits very soon!
Thanks for the info on payments PPH and thanks for the Hourlies, this weekend I purchased some excellent Hourlies support services from Dani Epstein which has saved me a load of the time on the work I’m doing. Why didn’t I think of this before? Hourlies are working well for me.

My payment has been deducted from my PPH vallet and did not show up in my bank account. Can anyone tell me what to do ??

I think the new pricing structure is dreadful – firstly most of freelancers work as a service provided basis, so no need for VAT! As a long standing freelancer I have never had to add VAT to a clients bill but now am being taxed for the invoice value! I also think the new pricing structure will put a lot of people off bidding – as I have found having to increase my bid values to try and absorb some the new charges without working as a busy fool, I haven’t won any jobs as a result of this, this… Read more »

Stationary is vat exempt, so if I am doing a job such as letterheads why do I need to pay VAT on top of commission

Thanks for the concise explanation of the new pricing structure, I think I finally get it. On Firefox your social media bar appears to cover half of the blog post though making it hard to read.

For buyers such as myself you need to consider a direct debit or bank transfer option.
And I really can’t understand why you think the hourly/fixed job pricing works for everyone? I tend to pay people on a daily basis so your current system doesn’t work for me

Isn’t a Hourly price just a Daily Rate / 8 ?

Hi Tim,

Where are you based?

Ted Warren
Ted Warren

In UK if your turnover is insufficient you need not register for VAT and thus do not have to charge VAT. However PPH is registered and they have to pay VAT on their commission/fees.

15% and the fact that I take hardly any work through PPH means that it’s just not sustainable for me any more.

I believe that is one of the so much vital info for me.
And i’m satisfied studying your article. But should remark on few general things,

You should DEFINETLY offer a premium UK Chaps/Faster payments for a fee..

Sometimes, we NEED the money asap so would be great to be able to pay to get it faster..

I cannot believe a site such as this has not implemented something like this, you have grown loads since I joined in 2010 and you need to keep up with the times!!!

Danny.

I think you need to have a way of direct bank transfer. I agree with similar comments in that sometimes you need the money straight away. Why should you have to wait when you’ve done the work? Also make it free to transfer the money over. Nobody likes getting stung…

The main goal of PPH is to keep us stucket in their site, without giving us choice for some other work posibilities it is good only for them but not for us.

I don’t understand why we as freelances incur the VAT that PPH are liable for??

Hmm, what is written above doesn’t appear to be true.
I am currently being charged 25% commission on everything I earn, and on top of this they are also charging the buyers £0.6 + 10%

This seems extortionate to me.
